National Artificial Intelligence Center for Research and Innovation (NAICRI)

Description

The Philippines' central national institution for AI research, advanced computing and innovation, launched by the Department of Science and Technology on 26 February 2026. NAICRI consolidates years of fragmented AI research, computing infrastructure and capacity-building into a single permanent body, and is the country's designated hub for harmonizing national AI efforts.

Operates on infrastructure already running at DOST-ASTI: COARE, the national supercomputing facility (used for FASSSTER pandemic surveillance, rice genome sequencing with IRRI, climate modeling and hazard mapping); PREGINET, the national research and education network; NAIRA, a national AI-as-a-Service hub; and DIMER, a shared AI model repository. DOST reported GPU utilization on COARE up 54 percent since 2020 and more than doubling in the year to launch.
